Rami Qassar

Rami Qassar throws stoneware vessels by hand in his Amman studio, glazing each piece for daily use rather than display. He trained under a third-generation potter in Fuheis before setting up on his own, and still fires in a wood-fed kiln built the same way his teacher's was — a deliberate slowness in a practice that could easily be sped up.

Practice

Every vessel starts on the wheel, thrown in small batches of six to eight so each piece can be finished by hand rather than by mold. Glazes are mixed in-studio from local minerals, favoring a narrow palette of ash and iron tones that shift slightly with each firing — a variation Rami treats as the point, not a flaw to correct. Commissions run from single tableware sets to full restaurant service lines, always with the same brief: the piece has to survive a dishwasher and a decade of daily handling, not just a photograph.

Commissions

Recent work includes a 40-piece tableware commission for a Amman restaurant opening, an ongoing wholesale relationship with a Beirut concept store, and a limited run of tea sets developed with a regional hospitality group for guest amenities. Rami keeps output deliberately small — the studio produces a few hundred pieces a year — to hold the wheel-thrown, hand-glazed standard across everything that leaves it.
