Khuyut Textile Studio works out of a small handloom workshop in Ramallah, translating tatreez cross-stitch motifs into woven yardage rather than framed display panels. The founders trained first as embroiderers, then as weavers, specifically to solve a problem that kept coming up: a motif counted out in cross-stitch doesn't scale the same way on a loom, and most attempts to "print" tatreez onto fabric flatten the geometry that makes it recognizable.
Practice
Every pattern starts as a hand-counted embroidery sample before it's redrawn as a loom repeat — the studio treats this translation step as the actual craft, not a technical formality. Natural dyes are developed in-house from regional plant and olive-press byproducts, favoring a seasonal palette that shifts slightly year to year over a fixed color chart. Yardage runs are made to order rather than held as stock, sized to what a client's cutting order actually needs.
Commissions
Recent work includes a capsule of upholstery-weight yardage translating three regional tatreez motifs into continuous woven repeats, a reusable woven wrap for a Nablus soap maker's gift line dyed with the soap's own olive-oil press byproducts, and an ongoing made-to-order relationship supplying a diaspora fashion label's small collections.
